As recorded by John Williams and Timothy Kain.

Based on the afro-Brazilian style "jongo" this composition is one of the most important pieces of Bellinati's repertoire. It was written in Geneva, Switzerland, when Paulo was living there. The composer made himself many versions of the piece: for solo guitar, two guitars, jazz ensemble (guitar, piano, sax, bass, and drums), jazz ensemble and orchestra, and guitar and orchestra.

In 1988 the solo guitar version won the first prize on the composition contest at the "Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare" in Martinique. The two-guitar version was written in 1989 dedicated to the great duo The Assad Brothers; who played the piece in concert for many years.
Although this is for 2 guitars, the 1st guitar is pretty much the same as the already published solo version with a 2nd added guitar part. The 2nd part adds a gorgeousness and full live feeling. This version was presented to the Assad brothers. **** Gendai Guitar Magazine

&super Jongo, a hugely enjoyable, up-tempo Brazilian foot-tapper. A number of readers will be familiar with the Brazilian composers solo work of the same name, now reworked as a duo version dedicated to my dear friends Sergio and Odair Assad. Its a highly rhythmic 6/8, very lively, full of cool sounds; at times dense and elsewhere thin, these contrasts provide a pleasing shape and there is an optional percussion section as in Bellinatis own solo recording. Quite a piece. Chris Kilvington, Classical Guitar Magazine

With one guitar or two, this is fun to play and fun to hear. David Grimes, Soundboard Magazine
