Set on Lesbos in ancient times. Polidoro, the king, is deposed and goes into hiding. The usurper is killed and Antenore proclaims himself ruler. He accuses Polidoro's daughter, Zelmira, of killing the old king and, with lies, convinces her husband, Ilo, to support the charges. Ilo eventually learns the truth, rescues his wife and father-in-law, arrests Antenore and restores the true monarch to the throne.
