French composer, conductor and teacher, Jules Semler-Collery (1902-1988) studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won many prizes. He became well-known as a composer and his works remain popular to this day, including hisBarcarolle and Bacchanalian Songs for Tuba, Double Bass, Bass Saxhorn or Brass Trombone and Piano. Semler-Collery's success as a composer has been proven by the inclusion of many of his compositions in the list of compulsoryworks at the Paris Conservatoire. The two movements of Barcarolle and Bacchanalian Song, adaptable for a variety of bass instruments, reflect their titles by use of a variety of musical features. Suitable for advanced Tuba, DoubleBass, Bass Saxhorn and Bass Trombone players, Semler-Collery's Barcarolle and Bacchanalian Song is an exciting addition to the bass instrument's repertoire.
