Epiphone Granada (second hand c1966)

Catalogue No: igEPI-Granada-202px

Well, this is certainly different! The Epiphone Granada was Epiphone's entry level archtop electric, made by Gibson in Kalamazoo and corresponding the the Gibson branded ES120T. it featured a Melody Maker pickup attached to a rather large molded plastic pickguard, which had a tendency to get brittle and crack over time.

This Granada is a little different. Nicknamed the 'Stealth' Granada by the chap who did the work on it, we've put a full description below, but it's set up as a plug in acoustic archtop with a pickup hidden in the bridge and we think it's about the coolest plug in acoustic archtop we've seen!

£1,195.00

The original guard met its maker a long time ago, and the guitar has been converted into an electro acoustic with a Baggs Element installed in the bridge and volume and tone controls under the pickguard. The guard itself is a nicely bound acrylic affair in the shape of the original.

It's obviously no collector's piece, but instead you get a really nice playing plug in acoustic archtop sound that hangs comfortably on a strap and sounds fantastic, so we thoroughly approve - it's given a new life to this lovely instrument. It's nice and resonant acoustically despite it's slim build.

The tuners look ancient but we have a suspicion they're not as old as they look, and the remaining parts are all added. There's a bit of damage on the rim along the binding edge near the end pin but it doesn't give us any cause for concern. Otherwise everything looks good on it.

Currently set up with Martin Retros but it will take regular electric strings or flatwounds if that's the route you wanted to go down.
