This composition examines the spatial reflection of temporally refracted gestures. Refraction is defined as the bending of a ray or wave of light, heat, or sound, as it passes obliquely from one medium to another of different density, in which its speed is different, or through layers of different density in the same medium. Reflection is defined as the change in direction which a ray or wave of light, heat, sound, or other form of radiant energy experiences when it strikes upon a surface and is thrown back into the same medium from which it approached. 1bree compositional concerns are isolated in three successive gestural movements: sculpted sound masses, proportional melody, and harmonic sonority. Each gesture is explored and refracted within various structural concerns. The gestures are presented in a large spatial context for performance clarity and listener contemplation (reflection, in both uses of the word).
