Derbyshire, Edward - 9 Characterful Pieces

I had the opening bars of this tune already written for some time but didn’t know what or where to go with the melody. That was until I watched the Shane Warne State Memorial Service from the MCG screened live on TV on 30 March 2022. Shane Warne had very sadly passed away a few weeks earlier at the age of 52. As a huge cricket fan, I found myself getting very emotional throughout the service, and the melody came tumbling out. Warnie was associated with the number 23 on the back of his cricket shirt, and hence the title of the piece was an easy choice. I was lucky enough to see Warnie play Test Cricket on many occasions and this is my tribute to him for all the fabulous memories.  Peter Younghusband
