Béla Bartók is among the leading figures in 20th-century music. His contribution to the study of folk songs cannot be overstated, and his educational works such as Mikrokosmos have accompanied generations of students.
The highly popular Romanian Folk Dances, composed in 1915, are a result of his engagement with the folk music of his homeland. These dances have been arranged in many forms, and thanks to the exquisite transcription by Tobias Zuleger, this small collection can now also be performed on the organ.
The arranger has skillfully translated the individual movements—some introspective and delicately crafted, others wildly energetic—appropriately for the organ. This short suite thus provides a welcome addition to the “dance-inspired” concert repertoire.
“The short movements in this charming transcription are sonically expanded with sensitivity to the organ’s capabilities. Bartók’s intended clarity of the music is preserved.”

“Zuleger presents a successful arrangement of the dances for solo organ: the technical possibilities of the organ are explored with skill. The dances are excellent additions to the concert repertoire, suitable for teaching, and also for liturgical use.”
