This U3X is a relatively rare model of piano. This instrument in black polyester was manufactured in 1979 in Japan. 

It has been fully reconditioned by Yamaha and therefore includes their full 5-year manufacturers warranty. This piano is distinguished from the 'standard' U3 by the addition of "X" shaped bracing on the back of the piano which gives it greater stability.

The "X" shaped wooden back bracings were designed to strengthen the piano to help increase the piano's tuning stability - both through fluctuations in atmospheric conditions and heavy use. The casework design is also subtly different to the standard U3 model being more akin to the modern sloped design behind the keyboard.
