Light-handed but challenging music, for recorder duet in which the upper part (for alto) forms a self-contained concert étucle while the lower part (for tenor) adds a contrapuntal accompaniment. Each piece tackles a different technical problem, from rapid scalar passages and neighbournote exercises to parallel sixths and the projection of two melodic lines in a single part. A useful introduction to virtuoso ensemble playing that also adds several delightful encore numbers to the recorder repertoire.
