Brahms, Johannes - Sonata in E minor Op.38

Brahms wrote the Sonata, Op. 38 during the summer months of 1862 and 1865. The piece is really a homage to J.S. Bach and has become standard repertoire for the cellist. The Sonata is an homage to Bach, the principal theme of the First movement and the Fugue are based on Contrapunctus 4 and 13 of the Art of Fugue.  Sonate für Violoncello und Klavier Nr. 1 e-moll op. 38 Brahms schrieb die Sonate Op. 38 während der Sommermonate 1862 und 1865. Das Stück ist eigentlich eine Hommage an J.S. Bach und ist für den Cellisten zum Standardrepertoire geworden. Die Sonate ist eine Hommage an Bach, das Hauptthema des ersten Satzes und der Fuge basieren auf den Contrapunctus 4 und 13 der Kunst der Fuge.
