As with his ballet Romeo and Juliet Sergei Prokofiev also compiled several suites from the music for Cinderella as separate extracts for orchestra. The pianist Mikhail Pletnev conceived another suite for two pianos. The transcription dispenses with superficial virtuosity and emphasises the subtle interweaving of the voices and the development of musical characteristics that reflect the fairy-tale mood of the original. Pletnev's own CD recording was awarded a Grammy in 2005.
