Zhang, Zhao - Song of Mei Niang

"Song of Mei Niang" was composed in 2012 for the 100th anniversary celebration of Nie Er. The work was based on the theme of Nie Er's "Song of Mei Niang". It tells the story of the main character Gao Weihan, who was wounded in the war, and his lover Mei Niang, who rushed back to the motherland from South China despite his parents' opposition. The work expresses the memories and war and Mei Niang's suppressed painful feelings and determination to awaken her lover's memory with love.
