Tansman, Alexandre - Œuvres pour guitare - Suites

Œuvres pour guitare - Suites is the second volume of the critical edition of Alexandre Tansman’s works for guitar, edited by Frédéric Zigante. The edition brings together three compositions that could be attributed to the suite genre: Six Pièces pour guitare (1956), In modo polonico - Airs et Dances antiques et populaires de la Pologne (1964), and, Suite in modo polonico (1965). The pieces were originally sent by Tansman to the illustrious Andrés Segovia, who ended up recording these pieces and commissioning further pieces. Tansman was not a guitarist and relied on the recipient of his pieces to adapt his music to the instrument. Segovia, however, only revised the pieces that he included in his concert repertoire. Many pieces were either left aside by the composer himself or, in rarer cases, passed to other guitarists. Based on comparative study of the original sources, this edition answers many of the questions left unresolved in earlier publications. Moreover, this edition finally publishes the Notturno romantico and Cracovienne, left out by Tansman during the complicated development of the suites. The pieces proposed in this volume do not present any particular difficulty of execution, as they have been adapted to the properties of the instrument
