This trombone octet is a tour-de-force and a great showpiece for power playing and ensemble coordination. It is an advanced octet scored for double quartet of ATTB-TTTB. Scherzo Funebre was commissioned by Peter Gane and the Guildhall Trombone Choir in 1983 and first performed in the Barbican Centre on Friday 16th September 1983. The Hinrichsen Foundation contributed to the commission.
