Evoking the sun-drenched Caribbean through playful melodies for flute, alto flute, piccolo and bassoon, and with driving rhythms performed on traditional Central and South American percussion instruments, A Samba for Sam invites the listener to conjure up images of cerulean sky, azure water, and golden sand. While requiring virtuosic technique and serious musicianship for the players, A Samba for Sam is unrelentingly happy and doesn't take itself too seriously.
