Widmann's chamber music-filled work from 1999 was commissioned by the Siemens Cultural Program. As the title suggests, this early work refers to the famous poems of Goethe, but the vocal part is restricted to vocalises and reflects the poetic text without directly quoting it. Experimental and intense sound constellations as well as the expressive vocalises characterize this early composition.
