Pop Art New Romantic Greetings Card

The Fashion Vs Music series celebrates the popular culture of eras gone by and the longstanding relationship between music and fashion.

This Greeting Card features a design inspired by theNew Romantic scene of the late 1970s-early 1980s, when bands such as Visage, Culture Club and Adam & The Ants created a sound influenced by the glam rock stars of the previous decade such as David Bowie and RoxyMusic.

Rejecting the austerity and anti-fashion stance of punk, the New Romantics and their fans cultivated a striking look that drew on historical themes, including frilly fop shirts based on the stylesofthe English Romantic period, Russian constructivism and Bonnie Prince Charlie. Followers of the movement embraced androgynous clothing and often wore cosmetics such as eyeliner and lipstick.
