This recorder is well-suited to players who are more advanced on descant and are looking for their first tenor recorder. The 511B model features an easy-reach C/C# key and small to medium-spaced holes which improve playability.
Tenor recorders are pitched in the key of C (same fingering as the descant recorder) making them the ideal instrument for advancing students or for school ensembles. The tenor recorder produces a richer, deeper tone than the descant version but as it is in the same key as the descant recorder you do not have to learn any new fingerings, and can use all your existing sheet music!
The fingering can be a bit of a stretch with tenor recorders but this Aulos 511B features an easy-reach C/C# key and small to medium-spaced holes; both of which really help to improve the playability. The quality of the Aulos 511B is much better than cheaper models. The intonation is extremely accurate and the curved windway allows for more controlled breathing and hence more expressive playing. The sound is deep and rich, especially in the lower registers, making it ideal for ensemble playing.
