This pamphlet by famous children's composer Walter Carroll is an interesting historical document containing advice on musical theory for pupils preparing for exams.

It deals with the main facts of musical structure, as exemplified in the Sonatas of Beethoven, the Preludes and Fugues of Bach, and the Suites of Bach and Handel. The student is encouraged to analyse each example according the the method suggested by Carroll.
