Other options?
All Yamaha pianos are available in different wood finishes, have the option for chrome or brass fittings and also the option to have the SC2/SC3 silent system.
Our range of silent pianos are all completely acoustic instruments; meaning that hammers are still striking strings to produce a sound and therefore have the benefit of playing a real acoustic piano, however, they also have a digital component that simply allows players the option to switch to a digital sound for "silent playing" via headphones.
What is the SC3 Silent system?
The silent side of this piano is ideal for families with young children or night owls looking to practice late into the night.
The most common question regarding the silent piano is "is this a digital piano?".
Our range of silent pianos are all completely acoustic instruments; meaning that hammers are still striking strings to produce a sound and therefore have the benefit of playing a real acoustic piano, however, they also have a digital component that simply allows players the option to switch to a digital sound for "silent playing" via headphones.
The Yamaha SC3 system allows for silent piano practise with headphones. With the added flexibility of the silent system, it is an ideal instrument for busy and demanding musicians wanting to practice without disturbing others.
SC3 Silent System features:
-
Yamaha’s newly developed Articulation Sensor System, which delivers high-precision simulations of the movements of the hammers at the moment they strike the strings, reproducing every piano sound exactly the way the player intended
- Grand Expression Modelling is a new feature that detects the force and acceleration of the keystrokes and changes the audio output accordingly in real time, providing the player with the ability to explore subtle tonal nuances, even in SILENT mode.
- Virtual Resonance Modeling technology elaborately reproduces the rich sympathetic tones that are created by the timing and intensity of keystrokes, and the vibrations of the strings are propagated to other strings and the soundboard during pedalling. Virtual Resonance Modeling even replicates the sounds the dampers make when they are lifted off the strings, along with the resonance of the aliquot stringing, strings, soundboard, and case.
- Equipped with 20 different rhythm types that provide automatic accompaniment with percussion and bass.
- Sampled sound of the full-size concert grand pianos: Yamaha's concert grand CFX, and Bösendorfer’ legendary and majestic model Imperial.
- Binaural sampling technology to record the CFX samples with special microphones to portray a more natural tone.
- Smooth release technology - Emphasizes a crisper tone when playing staccato
- Key-off samples - The tone a grand piano makes when the dampers slowly move back into place when you take your hands off the keys.
- Two recording functions: built-in or to USB drive saved in WAV format.
- 10 pre-installed sampled sounds which include - Piano, Electric piano 1 and 2, Harpsichord, Vibraphone, Celesta, Pipe Organ, Jazz Organ, Strings and Choir
- 64 note polyphony
- 30MB Wave ROM
- Built-in Metronome
- 80min playback function
- MIDI IN/OUT
- AUX IN/OUT
- 2 headphone sockets
- Downloadable Apps are available to connect your piano to your iPad
Under every single key on the keyboard, there are greyscale shutters and optical sensors. These sensors track the movement of keys allowing for a very responsive digital sound.
All silent pianos by Yamaha are supplied with a pair of Yamaha headphones
Why Yamaha?
The Yamaha B2 is the second and middle model in the B series. In comparison to the B1, this is a slightly taller model lending a bigger soundboard and longer strings which instantly gives the piano a richer, warmer tone. It also features a solid spruce soundboard, which in comparison to the laminated soundboard on the B1, also enhances the overall timbre of the piano.
At 113cm in height, this piano is still amongst the more compact models, however with its improved action, it is a significant step up from the B1. This instrument is suitable for beginners up to a more advanced level.
