Bösendorfer 185VC Vienna Concert Grand Piano

Catalogue No: GBOS-185VC-BP

IN STOCK

Our staff at Forsyths went to the Bösendorfer factory in Austria to personally pick out this stunning instrument.

We chose it for its incredibly balanced, silky-smooth playing experience and its ability to whisper and growl with refinement, amongst three others of the same model.

The 185VC grand piano is an exciting addition to the acclaimed Vienna Concert range of Bösendorfer instruments aimed at the professional and demanding amateur pianist.

Sir András Schiff was so impressed that he commissioned his own unique 280VC in Pyramid mahogany for his use in Concert Halls in Europe and now you can have some of this magic too.

Why Bösendorfer?

The 185VC is a new, clean-sheet design (unrelated to the previous 185) launched in June 2018 at the Bösendorfer worldwide launch in Vienna. We are extremely proud to have been the very first Bösendorfer dealer in the world to select our own 185VC.  Being the first to choose gave us the advantage of having the largest variety of instruments possible to make a selection from.  We were assisted by Professor of Piano Marc Hunziker from The Lucerne School of Music and this particular instrument spoke to us all immediately.  Between us, we picked the instrument that exemplified the ethos of the new Vienna Concert range in the very best way. This individual instrument is now sold.

Bösendorfer has always been renowned for its warm and rich Viennese sound and the new Vienna Concert line preserves this but adds extra dimensions to its capabilities.  The VC instruments have a noticeably wider and more accessible dynamic range, greatly improved sustain - particularly noticeable in the treble, improved clarity and projection whilst maintaining warmth.

These characteristics make the piano suitable for the widest range of repertoire and it is instantly accessible to the pianist - even if they are not experienced with Bosendorfer instruments.

All this has been made possible by the sophisticated advances in the design and construction that utilised sophisticated scientific modelling and measuring technology.

Background

Founded in Vienna by Ignaz and Ludwig Bösendorfer in 1828, Bösendorfer are one of the oldest piano manufacturers in the world, and also one of the most exclusive, making only a few hundred instruments each year.

Bösendorfer grand pianos are unlike any other as they are built with Bösendorfer's unique resonance case principle. Using a similar principle to the way in which a violin produces its sound, the whole body of the piano, and not just the soundboard, becomes acoustically active, providing richness of tone colour and producing Bösendorfer's legendary pure sound.

Main Features:

  • Handmade in Austria
  • New Scale design and iron frame casting to improve consistency and energy retention (projection)
  • Newly developed concept for the acoustical assembly
  • Integrated ring-type soundboard base that enables extremely precisely customised 3-dimensional crowning of the soundboard.
  • Independent and adjustable Capo d'astro, to improve sound quality in the treble
  • Hand-spun bass strings
  • Numerous design measures

Dimensions:

Length -185cm
