From the back cover

The collection of songs in this book has a special place in the hearts of the Icelanders. They are all by well known Icelandic composers, both professional and laymen, and are part of the standard repertoire for Icelandic singers. By translating the lyrics into English for anyone to sing, there is an opportunity to extend their circulation outside the country. Icelandic songs have been restricted by the difficulty of the Icelandic language which is difficult to pronounce. Therefore there are phonetics of all the Icelandic song-texts at the back of the book.
