2007 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Edvard Grieg and Recital Music published a number of works to mark the anniversary. Two Elegiac Melodies are wonderfully lyrical and evocative miniatures and are based on two earlier songs from Op.33. Although written for string orchestra, they are also playable by string nonet (2.2.2.2.1). The Wounded Heart divides a beautiful melody between Violin 1 and Cello with a simple and sustained accompaniment. The Last Spring explores glorious string textures with its inventive melodic lines and phrases. There are musical and technical challenges, although nothing that a good intermediate string orchestra couldnt tackle and these are player and audience friendly. The edition is published with a score and parts (4.4.3.3.2)
