More info

Develop your sense of rhythm for both sight-reading and improvising. The book contains 24 etudes with a corresponding CD demo track (with a featured soloist) and a further play-along track. Each etude is based on a specific rhythm or combination of rhythmic figures, which are modified in various ways (eg by starting the rhythm on a different beat). Some etudes are like jazz heads while others reflect jazz soloing, or the horn section backing figures in a big band. There are two versions of each etude – a simplified guide-tone version, followed by the etude itself. You can check the accuracy of your rhythms against those played on the CD track. An ideal tool for beginner/intermediate players to learn the basic language of jazz, swing phrasing, and articulation. Rhythm section: Fred Lipsius (p), Dave Clark (b), Dave Weigert (d). 68 pages.

Featured soloists: Fred Lipsius (as/ts), Matt Marvuglio (fl), Ramon Ricker (cl), Lew Soloff (t), Jim Pugh (tb) and Jack Pezanelli (g).
