This first ever study score of Mozart's „Thirteen Early String Quartets« is based on the reliable Urtext of the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe. lt is intended not only for performers utilizing it as a reference score for the Bärenreiter performing editions in parts (BA 4847, BA 4848, BA 4849 and BA 4850), but also for musicians interested in the development of Mozart as a composer in the genre of the string quartet. Our Bärenreiter Classics Study Score begins With Mozart's first quartet the „Lodi“ Quartet, K. 80 (73f), includes two ltalian cycles K.155-160 and K.168-l73, and ends with the isolated Menuett K. 68a. The informative Preface by Wolfgang Rehm, describes the influence on Mozart of Italian chamber music at this time and provides detailed information regarding the sources and other compositions written by Mozart during this period.
