Sonata for Violin and Piano was written in the years 1987-1989, instigated by violinist Cenek Pavlik, to whom the piece is also dedicated. This is a three-movement cycle with a dynamic first movement, alternating fast dramatic sections with more tranquil, lyrical passages. The Intermezzo is lighter in its expression, with burlesque scherzoso traits. The final movement flows in an extremely free tempo, its contemplative character heading for a certain inner sense of balance.
