Frederick Forte's transcription for viola from the original version of Sugar's violin concertino of 1961 works very well. A single movement, Allegro risoluto evokes Hungarian themes and there is plenty of scope to try exuberant rhythms, agile string string-crossing and varied bow-strokes as well as producing a rich singing tone. A Grade 3 and upwards viola student will relish this attractive addition to the repertoire.
