Adler, Samuel - Sonatina

This German-born composer and conductor came to the United States at the outbreak of World War II when he was just 11. He studied with Walter Piston, Paul Hindemith and Aaron Copland among others and currently teaches compositionat the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. This rhythmically challenging 'Sonatina' features a 'fast and brilliant' first movement, a 'slow and very gently moving' second and a finale which dispenses with bar-linesentirely until the last moments.
