"Dances of Our Time" is a unique collection of new solo piano music featuring a kaleidoscopic array of international piano repertoire of the present day. Prominent composers from 26 countries have contributed 75 dances brimming with esprit, including established forms such as the waltz, Charleston and ländler, that are interpreted through a contemporary musical lens. Folkloristic sounds jostle with songlike moments, jazz miniatures and playful character pieces. This edition serves as a fascinating collection of contemporary music for piano pupils with at least three years of experience as well as ambitious amateurs and professional pianists alike. All works were commissioned by and composed for the multimedia initiative Petrushka Project 2012. You can find videos of the premiere performances of each piece, alongside comprehensive background information on the composers and their dances, on our web site www.petrushka-project.com
