"Fred the Fork" was conceived in response to a request for new musical material for John D Elliott's group "Brasso ProFUNdo" or "Low Brass"! It is scored in this version for two tenor tubas and a bass tuba, but can also be played by horn and trombone plus tuba. The title alludes to a song written in 1928 Berlin by Weill and Brecht which has metamorphosised into a jazz standard. Like the original, "Fred the Fork" is in "swing" style and incorporates upward transpositions after each verse. Listen out for the cryptic musical quotation at the end.
