I wrote Quick 'n Delicious in 1992 for trombone soloist, Andrew Glendening. Andrew asked me to write him a short, virtuosic work for Solo-trombone. Several years earlier, he and l had been friends in music school at Oberlin, Ohio, where a restaurant by the name of Quick 'n Delicious was a favorite gathering spot. At the time he commissioned the work, the restaurant had recently closed down. I mapped the concept of short and virtuosic for the words, quick and delicious, respectively, and there was the title. The work utilizes a digital reverberation unit, which is turned on and off by the soloist through the use of a foot pedal or thumb switch. The intended effect is one of giving the trombone an equivalent of the piano's sostenufo pedal. Michael Angell
