This work was written almost exactly fifteen years after Schubert's previous offering in this genre, a Piano Trio also in B Flat Major (D.28), composed when a pupil of Antonio Salieri. This work, Op.99 (D.898), sees Schubert nearthe end of his career and life now fully aware of his powers' scope.
