Dorothy Pilling - Collected Songs
Catalogue No: FPD18
Pilling, Dorothy - Works for voice, descant recorder and piano. A collection of warm and melodious songs by a much-loved composer of music for young people includes a deft and coy setting of Jenny Kissed Me for voice, descant recorder and piano.
The collected songs of Dorothy Pilling, a much loved figure in the Mancunian musical world, known to generations of young pianists for her imaginative piano teaching pieces. Most of these songs (in all there are seven solos and two duets) were composed in the 1930s, though two are much more recent. Eight of the songs (including Alfreda Hodgson's encore favourite, Three Jolly Gentlemen) have just piano accompaniement, though the vivacious setting of Jenny Kiss'd Me has a delicious obbligato for recorder or oboe.
