Begin the Beguine
"There is a danger that teachers browsing through music for their pupils might just glance at the first piece in this book and dismiss the book as being a bit too easy for their Grade 6+ pupils. Please don't! The selection gets progressively more demanding. Although Begin the Beguine looks simple it needs a strong lip and plenty of stamina. The rhythms, intervals and styles of the other pieces will make them a challenge and, once practised, most rewarding. Each piece has helpful hints on style and technique printed in both the piano and solo parts: good advice from an expert! As we have come to expect from John Iveson's arrangements they work very well, are great fun to play and go down well with audience and performer alike. Sympathetic choice of key means that all tunes lie nicely on the slide and allow the aspiring player room to concentrate on bringing out the flavour and feel of the varying musical styles. All the tunes would make excellent encores to your recital!" - Music Teacher
