Rae, James - Track & Field
Catalogue No: RD063
Athletic events taken as the titles to 16 studies which describe them in music.
As a performer, James Rae has played in many West End and National Theatre productions, played freelance engagements with leading British orchestras and ensembles, and led the Phoenix Saxophone Quartet for a number of years. Most of his composing is directed towards teaching and James Rae is one of Europe's most published writers of educational music with over 120 titles to his name, several of which appear in exam syllabi around the world.
The sixteen titles or 'events' which make up 'Track & Field' have been carefully composed to describe in music each title chosen - and that must be a first. So Pentathlon is in 5/4; Heptathlon - 7/8; Decathlon - 10/8 and Marathon - Con moto. Long Jump is 'Funky!' (apparently), the 100 metres is to be played 'As fast as possible!' and the Shot - 'Heavy rock feel'.
