The legendary songwriting duo Rodgers & Hammerstein was awarded a special Pultizer Prize in 1944 for Oklahoma, their first musical. The production opened on Broadway on March 31, 1943 and ran for an unprecedented 2,212 performances. It was innovative at the time for its development of the concept of the "book musical," in which songs are interwoven with a compelling story that generates dramatic interest and isnt confined to the realm of comedy. The show was turned into a successful film in 1955 and continues to live on in revivals and regional theatre. Twelve songs from the acclaimed production are presented here with note-perfect backing tracks and removable guide vocals.
