Graham Fitkin studied with the composer Nigel Osborne at the University of Nottingham and later with the minimalist Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. His work has been classified as broadly minimalist and postminimalist, tonal and often complex. He acknowledges the influence of Stravinsky, Webern, Boulez and Steve Reich but also Muggsy Spanier and Miles Davis from the world of jazz and from Pop - The Smiths, Wire and the Pet Shop Boys.

'Jim and Pam and Pam and Jim', dated 1995, is a haunting little piece, built around a wistful motif which fills the opening bar. The composer says about it "This short piece is titled after two protagonists in the Australian soap Neighbours whose 'fling' I felt was never really fully documented."
