The Prodige Oboe has been carefully designed and crafted with progressing students in mind. This BC4131 model is the simplified, semi-automatic thumb plate system, which is well suited to young players and students, particularly in the UK where the English Thumb Plate is a popular oboe set-up.
The Prodige BC4131 Prodige Oboe features important technical, aesthetic and acoustic improvements that will allow beginners and experienced enthusiasts to progress quickly. Manufactured in Buffet Crampon's German workshops, the Prodige is not only reasonably priced but is also, quite simply, perfect for learning to play.
An intense period of research and development has unfolded into an easy-to-play instrument that facilitates mastery of the most difficult low register. The Prodige oboe allows for smooth transitions from one octave to another and helps students mastering sound output and controlling the air flow, which is so important in the first years of study. Oboists will be highly satisfied by the acoustic homogeneity of this oboe, which sound comes very close to that of a professional instrument.
Manufactured from selected African Blackwood, the oboe features a protective Luracast (resin) bore lining, and an external satin varnish, to offer greater protection against cracks occurring in the delicate wooden body. The Prodige has been designed with and ease of projection, accurate pitch and a consistent sound, so that the player will be encouraged to progress with their playing. The key layout has been refined by Buffet for this particular model, with a more ergonomic placement of spatula and plateau keys making the oboe comfortable to hold and play for all hand sizes. The key-work is forged and silver-plated to give a lasting finish and a good grip under the fingers. The keys are padded in a combination of cork and double skin, making them durable and air tight, creating a good seal against air leaks.
A new plateau key design brings a flexibility and feeling close to those of Buffet Crampon professional instruments. A new more ergonomic placement of spatulas and plateau keys means more comfortable playing for all hand sizes. New large-headed adjustment screws mean more precise adjustments.
The body is made of African blackwood with a Luracast bore to make the instrument crack-resistant. It is finished with a protective satin varnish to show the wood grain.
