The 1107 model is composed of an all Britannia silver body and silver-plated mechanism that features our Altus Scale. It offers a beautiful mellow sound and profound resonance that gives rise to a different charisma with the balanced tone palette any Altus flute is equipped with. The S-cut headjoint has an oval embouchure hole and is renowned for producing the trademark Altus sound, providing vibrant warmth with excellent projection. Its pure tonal center allows the artist great flexibility with an infinite color palette.

William Bennett (WIBB) Scale

An instrument’s scale is determined by the size and placement of each of the tone holes and their relationship to each other. This crucial design aspect allows flutists to play with accurate intonation and effortless tone. Altus flute maker Shuichi Tanaka and renowned British flautist William Bennett shared an admiration for Albert Cooper’s vision of updating and modernizing the traditional flute scale. Mr. Tanaka created the Altus Scale in cooperation with Mr. Bennett with vast performance experience and quest for precise intonation.

The collaboration of Tanaka and Bennett set a new standard for flute design. The Altus Scale was carefully designed to provide effortless intonation, impeccably tuned harmonics, and exceptionally balanced registers. This monumental achievement is one of the hallmarks of the great Altus flute making tradition.

Ag958 Britannia Silver

A traditionally created silver alloy composed of 95.8% silver, also dubbed the Britannia Silver for its historic existence in British coinage. Mr. Tanaka first created Altus flutes with this alloy for a Renaissance of 19th century flute sound. This alloy has an increased density and is considerably softer than Sterling Silver. This allows the instruments to make darker and richer tonal color without the use of greater wall thickness.

What we say

Wow. This flute is gorgeous. The tone is dark and full at the bottom, bright and rich at the top, and each note just slots right into place. The S-cut headjoint allows you to fully flex your tonal colour palette and stretch your dynamics to their max. It is physically heavier than all our other flutes but this is a small price to pay for such an expressive instrument.
