The 500 series has been around a while and it's a mainstay of the Eastman range, but the CC versions are an interesting departure from the traditional Gibson inspired designs. The most obvious point of order is the edges of the mandolin, which are left unbound and instead rolled over so that they have a gentle curve to them rather than the hard edge of the usual binding. It's a striking look and makes for a slightly more modern take on a very traditional design, but it also has a practical advantage in that they feel really pleasant to hold with no hard edges to dig into your forearm. Topping off the design is a switch to a satin rather than gloss finish, which combined with the rolled edges we feel works a lot better than gloss, and it comes in the 500 series lightweight hard case.
With the edges exposed there's nowhere to hide any sneaky plywood, but of course all Eastman mandolins are made from carved solid woods anyway.
