Turning the Tele into a Semi Hollow, certainly leads to subtle tonal variations on the established 'Telecaster' norm, with a slightly mellower attack in comparison to it's solid bodied relatives. However, the articulation, precision and clarity for which the Telecaster is rightly renowned, is still here in droves!
At it's point of introduction to the CBS era Fender line up in 1969, the Thinline was designed in order to offer a Tele style instrument at a slightly reduced weight point for your consummate gigging musician after earlier unsuccessful experiments with the Tele design and the 'Smugglers' cavity in around 1967.
Rather than keeping the weight reducing cavity under the pickguard, as in the 'Smugglers' design, Fender decided to plug for the subtle addition of a cavity on the upper bout of the body with an elegant 'F' Hole for garnish. Effectively turning the Telecaster design into a Semi Hollow.
This Vintera model, accurately reproduces how one of those initial production batch of Thinline Telecasters would have left the CBS factory in 1969!
