THe 16 series nicely bridge the gap between Martin's economy line made in Mexico and the premium US models, and they offer tremendous value as a professional level, made in USA guitar that is considerably cheaper than the heritage line. As the 16s aren't tethered to historic models to the same extent as the 18-45 lines, Martin have a bit of fun with them trying different materials and ideas and the limited edition 00 comes with unusual grenadillo back and sides. In this case, they've knocked it out of the park with a phenomenal sounding guitar that's far bigger sounding and more resonant that it's small proportions suggest. The grenadillo probably leans more to rosewood than mahogany with a rich sustain and complex harmonics, and it's nicely responsive to pick attack. It rings like a bell! Obviously it's all subjective but this has been one of my favourite Martins we've had in the shop for a long time, a truly cracking little instrument.
This 16 Series Grand Concert model is crafted with satin-finished granadillo back and sides, which provide prominent bass response while maintaining bell-like overtones. It includes a Sitka spruce gloss top for balanced tone and projection and a high-performance neck taper for ease of playability up and down the fretboard. The 00-16E comes equipped with Fishman® Matrix VT Enhance electronics. Strung with Authentic Acoustic Lifespan® 2.0 light gauge strings.
