What We Say:

Auden is a British company aiming to produce affordable guitars of exceptional quality that rival those of the major US and even UK manufacturers. The guitars are designed in the UK, and are assembled in a small workshop in China using traditional hand making techniques. In order to maintain the highest possible level of quality control Auden receive the guitars with a series of procedures left to do, and the nut, saddle, tuners and electronics are installed by Auden's UK team along with a fret dress and set up. The guitars arrive to us with an exceptional level of playability and we have yet to see one that could be described as less than flawless. All Audens except the Player's Choice models come with a state of the art Schertler pickup system and a hard case.

The Colton uses Auden’s dreadnought body style, and I’m holding it upside down so it must be a left hooker! As always, it’s a lovely looking instrument with a beautiful close-grained Spruce top. The rosette on this one is abalone with Maple, and Rosewood purfling and Rosewood binding completing an elegant picture.

The nut width comes in at 43mm and it has a modern feeling C profile. As is standard with Audens, the tuners are a high end set of Schertler units and you get a second strap button on the heel. The Ebony board is a very nice piece of timber with an elegant coachline and Ebony binding.

Tonally it has a rather Martin-like response, with a huge bass and lots of high harmonics ringing out at the top end. It’s a very smooth sound with bags of sustain and lots of volume. It’s a little hard to put fully through its fingerstyle paces with it being a left hander but I’ve tried to channel Elizabeth Cotton as best I can and it has a sweet voice with that rich sustain ringing through.

What Auden Say:
