Forsyths Music shop is looking for an enthusiastic musician to join its team on a full time basis in the sheet music and recorded music department. Forsyth is a world renowned music department store established in 1857 and has one of the largest sheet music departments in the UK.

The sheet music and recorded music department provides a specialist service to musicians and non musicians alike. With well over 30,000 different titles of sheet music in stock as well as thousands of classical and jazz CDs our staff play an important role to help customers navigate the stock. Staff in this department are required to have a good musical knowledge to be able to assist in the purchase and sales of music and recordings.

The responsibilities for this post will include:

    Assisting customers in the shop, on the phone or via email in purchasing sheet music, books, CDs, DVDs and music software etc.

  •    Helping to process customer orders via our website
  •    Helping to maintain appropriate stock and stock levels
  •    Helping to maintain a clean and tidy department and attractive displays
  •    Assisting with organising events and administration of music teaching
  •    Encourage customers to shop throughout the store

 

The successful candidate for this job must have the following skills and attributes:

  •     Friendly personable manner happy to deal with beginners to experts alike
  •    Good musical knowledge (particularly classical repertoire) and the ability to read music
  •    Ability to work as part of a team
  •    Willingness and ability to learn new skills
  •    High level of self motivation
  •    Attention to detail in administrative tasks (e.g. processing mail order and organising and classifying stock on the shelves)

In addition the following attributes would be desirable:

  •    Previous sales experience if possible in a music shop
  •    Interest and enthusiasm in classical and jazz recorded music
  •    Woodwind, string, guitar and/or piano player

 

This is a full time permanent position. We are open 7 days a week 9am-5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sundays. This position will be expected to work 5 days out of 7 including at least one weekend day.
