Following the success of their last session at Forsyth, during which they raised £276 for the music therapy project run by the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity, the Meetup group Let's Play the Piano! returns to our store for another fun, charitable 'Non-Classical' Special, as organiser Ben Richards explains:

Come and join us at our sixth special event at Forsyths!

I'm pleased to say this will be the first of many occasions where we donate all event proceeds towards a local children's/young persons' musical education project (details below). This will be spent as they wish on music books/equipment. The minimum donation will be £6, but you're welcome to give more. In addition to a fabulous afternoon of piano music there'll be tea and coffee along with a great opportunity to chat/make some new friends!

As with our special event in February, the programme will be anything 'non classical'. All players are welcome and no minimum standard/experience required. By 'non-classical' we mean: Jazz, Blues, Showtunes, Light music, Pop or similar! i.e not Baroque, Romantic or Avant-garde, although maybe 'New-Romantic' is ok :-)

People can arrive from 2pm and help themselves to tea/coffee on the sheet music floor, ready for our 2:30pm start. We'll also have a 20min interval.

Playing is also optional so feel free to attend as an audience member!

Event Update
I'm delighted to confirm that all proceeds from this event will be going to the Stockport Recorder College. We can hopefully match the £276 raised for the RMCH music therapy project at our last Forsyth's special in February!

Here's some info on the college:

"Stockport Recorder College is a Charity based in Hazel Grove for young people aged between 7 and 18. The college is open Saturday mornings during term time. Throughout the morning students play a variety of individual and group music and are encouraged to work towards Trinity Guildhall exams. Students also spend time during the morning learning Music Theory and Aural skills which are both transferable between all instruments and valuable knowledge! We have success stories from previous students moving on to study music at the Birmingham Conservatoire, RNCM and various other universities. A few students now attend Junior RNCM, and others have become members of the Manchester Recorder Orchestra. The college has been active for over 35 years and is run on a voluntary basis. Tuition is provided free of charge with a small fee of £40 per term to help cover the hire of the venue. As a charity we rely heavily on donations which are mostly raised at the end of term student concerts, raffles and selling sheet music and instruments which have been donated to us. The college is an excellent place for children who may not be able to afford private lessons to come and learn an instrument, along with learning to play the recorder they are learning other skills such as playing with other people, making friends and building confidence. If you would like any more information on the college and what we do our website is www.stockportrecordercollege.org.uk and our Facebook page is  www.facebook.com/StockportRecorderCollege."

Forsyths have kindly agreed to donate an additional 10% of what is collected (in addition to then applying the 10% educational discount on the purchases). This will significantly increase the benefit received. We'll make the collection at the event so will be able to share the total raised on the day.

You're welcome to turn up anytime from 2pm: there will be free refreshments both before the session and during the 20-minute interval. In addition, all attendees will be eligible on the day for a 10% discount on all sheet music for piano.
