Forsyth, 126 Deansgate, Manchester M3 2GR
Saturday 2 October 2021
The popular Meetup group Let's Play the Piano! has been meeting regularly at Forsyth since April 2017. It provides invaluable opportunities for adult amateur pianists to perform and for music-lovers to hear a wide variety of music in a friendly, supportive environment – and on one of our fantastic Schimmel grand pianos!
These 'Mini-Meetups' are held at Forsyth on the first Saturday of every month. Organiser Ben Richards explains:
These are an ideal opportunity for people who'd like to build confidence performing within a smaller group. I know the main monthly sessions can be quite daunting! It's also a good chance to try out longer pieces for those who'd like a bit more time.
We'll be in the basement workshop space and also be using the very best Schimmel Grand piano available (K280) which is real treat! Everybody is welcome regardless of ability, experience or musical style.
There'll be three sessions of two hours each at the following times with 10 places at each session:
Above: at the Meetup in January 2020, pianists and music-lovers gathered around one of our
beautiful 9-foot Schimmel Konzert grand pianos to share music from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book,
J. S. Bach,W. A. Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Saint-Saëns, Sydney Smith, Grieg, MacDowell, Satie,
Joplin, Glière, Prokofiev, Howard Blake, Philip Hammond, Ludovico Einaudi and Yann Tiersen,
as well as new music by members of the group.
There will be free refreshments both before the session and during the breaks. In addition, all attendees will be eligible on the day for a 10% discount on all sheet music for piano.
Attendance for both players and audience members is £5, which will help cover the group's organisational costs along with its further development for the benefit of piano lovers in Manchester.
