Judith Weir: Ive Turned The Page... - Weir, Judith (Composer)

Commissioned by the Scottish International Piano Competition as the test piece for the 2007 Competition.

Using the phrase Ive turned the page in conversation implies that youve made a new start and possibly left an old, bad habit behind: as in I never used to practise the piano, but now Ive turned the page.Ive turned the page... asks the performer to undertake several such drastic transformations within a very short space of time. As each page of the score is turned, and sometimes in between turns, the musics character changes radically. The performer also has to develop rapidly during the five or six minutes it takes to play this piece.
