John Irelands Cavatina for violin and piano, which was probably composed in 1904 and also exists in a slightly expanded organ version (H384 Price: £4.45), shows the composers mastery of the popular salon style of the time. Unavailable for many years, it is now reissued in a new edition that includes a scholarly note by Geoffrey Bush, Music Advisor to the John Ireland Trust. The Cavatina has been recorded by Paul Barritt and Catherine Edwards on a CD (Hyperion CDA 66853).
