Nancy Bachus Event at Forsyth

bachusbigWe’re pleased to announce that, after the success of her last visit to Forsyth, Nancy Bachus is to revisit us on Friday the 9th of  September  2011. Nancy is an acclaimed teacher, performer and music historian and one of Alfred Publishing’s biggest names. You can learn more about her by clicking here.

Her last visit saw the UK launch of her books “The Classical Spirit” & “The Romantic Spirit” which are now set on the ABRSM Piano Syllabus.

This time she’ll be featuring her new series “Exploring Piano Classics” (which is set to become just as widely used) as well as highlighting the ABRSM listed pieces from the abovementioned Spirit Series and offering advice on teaching beginner students. Trinity Guildhall are holding a series of free presentations across the UK and Ireland in 2011.

On Sunday 10th July they will be holding two Discover presentations here at Forsyth, the morning presentation at 11am and the afternoon presentation at 2:30pm.

We are humbled to have received the Music Industries Association award for Best Sheet Music Retailer of the Year 2010.   Mike Pearson, who many of you will know from our Sheet Music dept,  was invited (coerced he says) to attend the Awards Dinner in London.   Of course the whole Sheet Music department team of Rachel, Pete, Lloyd, Jem, Jim, Vanessa, Brent and Xavier our website creator deserve the credit too.

Chetham’s International Piano Summer School - August 20 to 31 2010

A source of inspiration, insight and focus for all piano enthusiasts and now in its tenth year, the Summer School continues to grow.

No other summer school manages to cater so universally for adult amateurs, promising children and observers, who are most welcome on the course, concert pianists, international young artists preparing for top competitions and professional music teachers.

Internationally acclaimed jazz performers Harry Harris, Nicky Illes and Les Chisnall will be in residence at the course. There will be workshop classes, intense individual study and opportunities for performance during the week with the artists.

Forsyths will be running a large shop this year from a spacious room very near to the refectory within Chetham’s main building. We shall be stocking a wide array of discounted music relavant to the courses and recitals; this will include sheet music, books, recordings and accessories. Orders can also be taken for music not in stock and either delivered to Chetham’s, or posted on afterwards. Customers may also wish to take the short walk up Deansgate to browse our vast main store.


Sing with The Hallé 2010

Following the fantastic success of previous events, The Hallé have announced details of this year’s extravaganza. On October 9 2010, the two featured works will be Carl Orff’s ever popular blockbuster “Carmina Burana” and Hubert Parry’s beautiful ” Blest Pair of Sirens“. All are invited to attend and to be rehearsed all day by Sir Mark Elder CBE and Mr Greg Batsleer before being one of a thousand-plus voices to give an evening performance of the work with The Hallé orchestra themselves.

Forsyth is proud to be invited to continue its 153 year association with The Hallé by offering the necessary music (and supporting recordings) for sale to participants at substantial discount.

This venerable French publishing house was founded in 1850 (almost as old as us!) and has since been dedicated to producing quality editions of great composers from their native France and beyond.
