Known as The Divine One, Sarah Vaughans first shot at stardom came in the fall of 1942, when she performed at Amateur Night at Harlems legendary Apollo Theater and won. This lead to her opening for Ella Fitzgerald at the club a few months later. In 1946, she signed to the Musicraft label and began what would become a legendary career. She made numerous jazz and pop standards her own, including Lullaby of Birdland, Misty, Whatever Lola Wants, Cant Get Out Of This Mood and more.
